Ultimate in elegance
Bulgari and Maserati evoke sleek styling and high performance. Few brands carry the prestige of these famous Italian names, so a watch born of their collaboration is in the fast lane to success.
Octo Maserati embodies the precision and elegance one would expect, but also the innovative spirit of market leaders. At its heart is the Calibre GG7800, which has four retrograde displays of minute, date, chronograph hour and minute counter, and a jumping-hour display.
As befits its pedigree, this is not a retiring watch - it is big, at 45mm, and bold, with an octagonal shape. The effect is streamlined with chronograph pushers recessed into the caseband.
Octo Maserati references the famous features of the car in its blue-lacquered dial, inspired by the radiator grille with champleve effect. A tachometric scale is incorporated into the bezel and even the calfskin strap is reminiscent of the automobile's luxurious interior. The exterior of the watch is in silver and blue Maserati colours and the marque's Trident symbol features on the transparent caseback. Bulgari's Daniel Roth Carillon Tourbillon, or DR3300, is that rare thing, a three-hammer minute repeater.
Most repeaters are two-hammer and the watchmaker spent three years developing this departure from the norm.
Even a two-hammer striking watch is a complex undertaking, but Bulgari had the in-house capabilities to create the DR3300 without outsourcing a single step in the process. To create a sound which was acoustically pleasing, clear and melodic, Bulgari relied on high torque for the hammers and an inertia governor on the three gongs to quell friction.
