Officials foil lobster smuggling operation
Seventy boxes of lobsters worth HK$340,000 were confiscated at Lau Fau Shan in the New Territories yesterday, after police and customs officials foiled a smuggling operation. Three local men were arrested for assisting in smuggling unregistered items. The speedboat on which the goods were being loaded was believed to have disappeared into mainland waters and could not be found.
Out-of-control taxi hits minibus, hurting eight
Eight people were injured when a taxi driver heading towards the Ting Kau Bridge lost control and crashed into a minibus at 5.25am on a section of Tuen Mun Road in the New Territories. The crash caused the minibus to ram into a crash barrier. The driver and a passenger in the taxi, as well as six minibus passengers, were injured and taken to Tuen Mun Hospital.
Van hits bus at stop; four people injured
Four people were injured when a light goods van heading towards Kowloon crashed into a bus at noon in Kwai Chung Road. The bus had stopped for passengers to get off and the van, following close behind, could not brake in time and crashed into it. The driver of the van, two passengers in the van and a passenger on the bus were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital.
Three-vehicle collision injures dad and daughter
Three vehicles collided in Tung Chung Road at 11am close to the reservoir, resulting in two injuries. While overtaking a truck, a bus crashed into a private car, injuring the car's driver and his eight-year-old daughter.
Public brawling lands three men in custody
Three men aged 23, 25 and 31, were arrested for fighting in public in Central, and one may also face an additional charge of attacking the police. The men got into a fight when they brushed up against each other on an escalator in the On Hing Building. When police arrived to break up the fight, the 25-year-old splashed water on one officer.
Hotel pair arrested in cocaine bust
Police arrested the 28-year old licence holder and a 37-year-old barman following a drug bust at a bar in Hillwood Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, at 9.30pm on Friday. They found 198 grams of what was believed to be cocaine and 63 grams of what was believed to be ketamine during the raid. The drugs were estimated to have a value of HK$380,000.
Concealed knives and machete found in pub
An anti-triad police unit arrested the 57-year-old manager of a bar in To Kwa Wan Road, Hung Hom, following the discovery of three beef knives and one machete hidden in the suspended ceiling. A 17-year-old male was also arrested.
