Cartier's HK$2 billion collection proves an irresistible attraction to the A-listers

The annual preview of Cartier's Haute Joaillerie collection is one of the most anticipated events, not just for the jewellery trade but also for the city's A-listers.

The French jeweller hosted two events last week - a media preview on Thursday and a gala dinner on Friday at the InterContinental hotel's ballroom in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The 300-plus jewellery items on display, worth more than HK$2 billion, drew the likes of veteran actresses Brigitte Lin Ching-hsia and Sylvia Chang Ai-chia, as well as socialites Cathy Lee Chui Chi-kay and Pansy Ho Chiu-king.

The ballroom was transformed into a 'secret garden', featuring organic deco to echo the nature-inspired jewellery on show. The centrepiece was a 63.66-carat colourless diamond. Other pieces included a series inspired by Middle Eastern dance and Islamic motifs, and luxury watches from this year's travelling Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, which came to Hong Kong for the first time last week.

Guests dressed to the nines for the soiree. Model Kathy Chow Man-kei wore a Gucci flapper dress with tassels and sequins, while Lin impressed in a black double cr?pe twill number from Lanvin. Guest tenor Amaury Vassili serenaded guests.

The Cartier collection will be on show at its boutiques in Prince's Building and the Peninsula hotel until Thursday.
