Employers have said they are opposed to any moves to impose mandatory paternity leave:
Guy Freeman - If people want to have children they should finance that choice themselves and not burden taxpayers, and definitely not their employers! (Unless the employer wants to offer it voluntarily, of course).
Zane Reynolds - I do not think the employers should have to finance such leave, nor do I agree that domestic helpers and grandparents should be left with the burden of raising children. You choose to have children, you work it out. It has been the way since time began in most of the modern world. And yes, I have done it!
Lin Suyu - It may improve their productivity, which is a hidden benefit, or, [to] put it another way, it is a social responsibility to their employees. We were told the minimum wage law would lead to the closure of shops, but they have survived. Are we going to believe such claims again? A 'heavy financial blow for companies'? Is that true?
On calls to set up a Lantau authority to turn the island into a new 'metropolis':
Patrick Shu Wing-lee - Follow the footsteps of Singapore, and allow the building of casinos on Lantau. The gambling tax income earned can be used for better welfare, housing and medical care purposes for the general public.
Alex Sabados - The mere mention of development sends shivers down my spine. The administration should be looking at quality not quantity. Especially when it comes to the destruction of Hong Kong's green spaces.
Sam Ho - No development is the best option. The natural environment should be protected. After all, this is what mostly attracts tourists.
Mario Tse - Reserve rural land for all residents to enjoy nature.
