Police denial of liaison office rally overturned

The police force, criticised by an inquiry for the handling of Vice-Premier Li Keqiang's visit last year and accused of hampering the media, had its rejection of an application for a protest outside the central government's liaison office overturned by an independent appeal board yesterday. The Civil Human Rights Front said the rally would take place on Sunday to protest against what it called police suppression of civil rights and Beijing's meddling in local politics.

Suicide partner changes mind, frees hanging man

A woman changed her mind and called police after a bungled suicide pact with her husband. Police said she told them the pair decided to kill themselves after a heated argument. The husband hanged himself in the living room but the wife changed her mind and freed the unconscious man. He was in serious condition in Tuen Mun Hospital last night and she was arrested for aiding a suicide.

Suspect faces court on attempted murder charge

An 18-year-old will appear in Fanling Court today charged with the attempted murder of his former boss in Sheung Shui on Tuesday.
