MDNA Madonna (CD)
Madonna returns to the world of pop with her 12th studio album, MDNA. The album features two hit singles, Give Me All Your Luvin' and Girl Gone Wild.
Girl Gone Wild is successful in the way it offers a good beat and melody, making it perfect for dancing. The lyrics are strong but slightly repetitive, which is a little disappointing. It seems Madonna's soft voice is drowned out by the music.
Masterpiece is one of the better tracks on the album. While Girl Gone Wild and a couple of others are fast-flowing with an electronic sound, Masterpiece goes back to the basics with an effective rhythm and melody. Madonna's voice really shines through - it's sweet and pure.
Even though it was a chart-topper, Give Me All Your Luvin' did not really work for me. The melody was cheerful and bubbly, but again the singer's voice doesn't fit the music. She lacks energy here. The cheerleader-style chant - spelling the words out - sounds a little cheap as well. However, the song tends to lift your mood, and I would recommend it on a bad day.
Overall, I feel this album doesn't have Madonna's old spark. It is as if she's trying to be something she's not. But the tracks have some great beats, making it a good party album.
