A-list show they're no loafers as they down champagne glasses in favour of cobbler's tools
Tod's, the Italian leather goods brand, hosted its Men's World Exhibition at the Elements mall. The event was a great opportunity to enjoy champagne while checking out display cases full of men's shoes in various stages of assembly.
Friday's event drew its fair share of big names. Actor and director Daniel Wu Yin-cho, TV host and actor Vinci Wong Yin-chi and fashion designer Johanna Ho were there. But the spotlight stayed firmly on a special guest artisan, a shoemaker from the Tod's factory in Italy who spent three hours showing how the shoes are made by hand.
She soon had Hong Kong's beautiful people putting down their glasses to try their hands at cobbling, with different degrees of success.
The woman, whose identity was being kept a closely guarded secret by Tod's, peppered her shoemaking instructions with a cobbling-inspired philosophy of life. So what can you learn from a career dedicated to the noble shoe? That in shoes, as in all things, 'if you start them off well they will end well', and mostly it comes down to 'getting started on the right foot'. It was a brand of wisdom best described as soulful.
