There's a long way to go for out-and-out stayer

David Ferraris was left lamenting the lack of 2,200m events at Sha Tin after Tres Magnifique scored his first local victory, and the five-year-old is unlikely to ever live up to his reputation. 'He would stay the Burma Road,' Ferraris said. 'The 2,200m helped because he stays so well. In any race over distance, he is just one-paced all the way and plugs away. He just stays all day at that one pace. There is a race at Happy Valley over 2,200m in a couple of weeks, but that might be too soon. We might just have a rest now because he is not a big horse.' The son of Choisir won four from eight in England for Richard Hannon and arrived off a mark of 89, but has been dropping ever since, finally finding his mark at 62.
