At one time, the John Size-trained pair Vivacissimo and Mentor were on the same pathway, but a training accident ensured that one didn't get his maiden win until six months after the other. Mentor, of course, has won three from four to stamp himself a potential star, but Vivacissimo had to wait until yesterday to announce himself as a quality horse with a fighting win, after he had finished runner-up to Dance With Gold on debut. 'He jumped out of the gates one morning and ripped into the front of his legs,' explained jockey Douglas Whyte. 'He and Mentor started out at the same time, and they were jumping out of the gates together, but since then he has been six months behind.'
