Bonhams' Modern Wristwatches Spring Auction features more than 100 lots of fine wristwatches and pocket watches sourced from all over the world, with a total estimate of more than HK$12.4 million. Some are exclusive timepieces rarely seen in the collectors' market.
The most exclusive piece is lot 875, a Patek Philippe 18ct gold perpetual calendar chronograph manual-wind wristwatch, Reference 1518. This particular reference was introduced in 1941 and was one of the first perpetual calendar chronograph timepieces in the world; it has been made in very limited quantity. The present lot was made in 1950, with an estimate of HK$2.5 million to HK$2.8 million.
Another limited timepiece is lot 844, an A. Lange & Sohne Langematik Perpetual 18ct rose gold perpetual calendar manual wind wristwatch. There are only 25 pieces produced in this unique combination of 18ct rose gold case and black dial. The estimate of this lot is HK$250,000 to HK$350,000.
The auction will also feature some exquisite pocket watches from the 18th and 19th centuries, including lot 833, a Charles Reuge gold-plated, open-face pocket watch with alarm automaton, estimated at HK$59,000 to HK$70,000.
