Coffee-drinking celebrities take over in beverage binge

Disgruntled coffee drinkers were turned away in droves from Wan Chai's Pacific Coffee last Wednesday. The store was off limits from the 'ordinaries' to make room for coffee-drinking celebrities and journalists.

The fanfare was all in celebration of Pacific Coffee's first foray into the world of coffee makers. Guests were offered a variety of beverages from the new Pacific Coffee capsule system machine - milk tea, coffee, mocha, tea - and were given a chance to try to make their own.

The journalists snacked on salmon mini-sandwiches while celebrity guests including actor Andy On, actress Karena Lam and Hong Kong personality Cheuk Wan-chi took to the stage to talk about their favourite hot beverages. They each got a chance to try to make one for themselves. The message apparently being, the Pacific Coffee machine is so easy even celebrities can do it.

Then, each took a turn placing a replica of their favourite flavour capsule in holes cut into a bit of poster board. When the last piece was in place a small explosion ensued, showering surprised guests with confetti and filling Cheuk's daring new hat, described on her blog as a purple croissant, with glitter. The mood of the event was perfectly captured by the Pacific Coffee capsule system catchphrase, 'More than you can expect.'
