Rents rise 2.1 per cent in first four months of year

Rents for small and medium-sized flats increased by 2.1 per cent in the first four months of this year, to HK$22.23 per sq ft on average, according to the latest research by Ricacorp Properties. Last month's figure was up 1.3 per cent from March. New Territories rents advanced 2.6 per cent in four months, compared with 2.1 per cent and 0.5 per cent in Kowloon and Hong Kong. Patrick Chow Moon-kit, the property agency's head of research, said flat prices had surged a lot, forcing many flat hunters to rent.
