Parthenon Pitted Naturally Ripened Kalamata Olives 
These fairly large olives have textures ranging from slightly firm to downright mushy. If you can get over the excessive saltiness, there is a fruitiness, but no distinct olive flavour. Maybe we expect too much from the words 'tree-ripened' and 'hand-picked' on the label.

Esti Kalamata Olives in Brine with Vinegar 
These whole olives are medium-sized and provide deep, olive flavours. As they sit in vinegar as well as brine, they are a bit sour, but it is a good contrast with the saltiness. The fruit, however, is not fleshy, so they are not satisfying to bite into.

Lindsay California Ripe Pitted Olives 
With their obviously machine-pitted holes and uniform, inky-black hue, these Californian olives don't look very promising at first, but turn out to be a huge surprise, with firm flesh, and a fresh, fruity flavour, even if they don't have much of that rich olive flavour. Despite not tasting much like olives, at least they aren't insipid.

Always Fresh Olives Kalamata - Pitted 
Very small, with the sharp taste of vinegar and an industrial lemon flavour, as if a drop of dishwashing liquid had accidentally seeped in. The finish is unpleasant and bitter. The fact that the olives are very soft and without much texture doesn't help. At this price, these are best left on the shelf.

Elita Greek Black Olives Kalamata 
Rather large, whole fruits with great olive flavour. They have a substantial amount of flesh that's firm and juicy, making them quite addictive. After eating a few, however, they begin to taste overly salty. The skins look blotchy, but that doesn't seem to affect the taste or texture.
