The institution is also offering new positions in its second primary campus opening in Sheung Wan in August, in co-operation with the Chinese YMCA.

'Five of the positions range from classroom teaching to administration across all schools. Our schools are also seeking about five more quality learning support assistants to cater for our individual needs programmes,' says Generations Christian Education executive director Gail Maidment.

Maidment explains that the schools' individual needs programmes provide differentiated learning, in keeping with the schools' whole-child learning philosophy. The programme helps children not yet at the level of their peers to catch up, and children who are ahead of their peers to have their learning extended through more challenging curriculum enhancements.

The new school will also open classes and recruit more teachers as students move up into higher levels.

'We seek candidates who view their career in education as a vocation and Christian education as a calling. We are looking for qualified, creative and flexible candidates who can adapt quickly and create opportunities for great learning and great fun,' Maidment says.

The language of teaching is English, but the ability to speak Cantonese and Putonghua is a great advantage.

Applicants should have a friendly, approachable nature and strong organisational skills. They should be confident and good communicators when working with the children or talking to parents, and flexible and enthusiastic when working in a team. 'The ability to use integrated technology in the classroom and deliver on best practices with confidence is also desirable,' Maidment says.

Teachers must have an international outlook, as they may have to work with up to 20 different nationalities and use the international primary curriculum.

Teachers undergo five days' training before the school year, and a mentor is appointed for those newly qualified. Continued professional development is linked to performance management. The institution offers in-house training while a development plan takes care of issues from health and safety to assessments. Teachers work closely with parents to arrange activities.
