Legco hopeful released from jail
People Power activist Wong Yeung-tat (pictured) is scheduled to be released from jail at 9 am, at the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre in Kowloon. Wong was sentenced in March for gate-crashing a public forum on by-elections. Earlier this month he applied to the judiciary to start serving his three-week term even though he is appealing against the conviction. Yueng told the court that he wanted to contest the Legco elections in September, which he would have been unable to do if still subject to a pending prison sentence.
Protests to accompany Eurovision finals
The Eurovision Song Contest finals will be held in the Crystal Hall in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan. Taking advantage of the presence of foreign media, rights activists will draw attention to state repression. The opposition accuses the Aliyev dynasty, which has ruled Azerbaijan almost since the fall of the Soviet Union, of clamping down on dissent and jailing political opponents on trumped-up charges. Activists will hold rallies and go on hunger strikes, but fear a backlash once the music stops. More than 125 million people will be tuning in to watch the televised finals.

The alliance said 2,000 people marched last year, with police putting the figure at 1,000. A candle-light vigil will be held on June 4.
