2007 Saintayme Grand Cru
Saint Emilion, France

It is difficult to find good value for money for a bottle of Bordeaux, and this wine is definitely worth a try. Denis Durantou, the owner of famed Chateau L'Eglise Clinet in Pomerol, has made this modestly priced wine with 13.5 per cent alcohol content. Saintayme is the local nickname for Saint Emilion. The wine is made from 35-year-old merlot vines.

On the nose there are blackcurrants and minty notes. The wine has a medium body, well balanced with light berry fruit and firm tannins. This is a refreshing, approachable wine to drink now. It's not a long distance runner, so enjoy it in its youth. It retails for HK$199 and is available at Kerry Wines, 2169 7700.
