2008 Eroica Riesling

2008 Eroica Riesling Chateau Ste Michelle Washington State, US

This wine is named after Beethoven's Third Symphony and it is as harmonious and elegant as its namesake. The 2008 edition offers an intense combination of pineapple and lemon-lime flavours and searing acid that integrates well with the fruit. The flavours linger beautifully.

It is an ideal summer wine and the relatively low alcohol and exuberant fruit flavours mean it could be enjoyed now. But the structure and calibre of the fruit suggest a wine that could be cellared for two decades. Large quantities of this riesling were made (27,000 cases), yet the partnership with Germany's Dr Loosen ensures that exceptional quality is maintained. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate has given every vintage of this wine at least 90 points. It retails for HK$270 at ASC Fine Wines.
