Let there be light

French designer Philippe Starck has previously partnered with his country's esteemed crystal-maker Baccarat, but few of the collaborations have offered the level of detail and daring charm as his latest. The Marie Coquine is ostensibly Starck's own 12-light Zenith chandelier - but with a couple of surreal additions transforming it into a variety of lamps. An attached umbrella, made with an ivory canopy and a chestnut-wood handle, softens the cast light and makes it ideal for a suspended lamp. But for those hoping for a room-fitting fixture, a wheeled steel tripod holds the lamp at one end, while a leather punching bag with saddle stitching balances it on the other. Limited to just 120 pieces and retailing for US$29,500 for the regular version or US$38,000 for the punching bag premium, it's a look at Starck's fantastical side. baccarat.com
