Sterling line-up gives Suborics best chance

With Brett Prebble and Douglas Whyte on overseas duties in the Yasuda Kinen in Tokyo, Andreas Suborics gets his chance to take centre stage in the Jockey Challenge.

The Austrian jockey hasn't won a Challenge during his short stints, but that could all change at this afternoon as he rides some solid winning chances, with John Moore's progressive-type Sterling City looking a 12-point banker in race seven.

Sterling City is likely to start the shortest price on the programme today and he is listed at 1.6 in early betting.

The Jockey Club oddsmakers posted Suborics as a $3.20 second pick behind in-form Weichong Marwing ($2.70).

It will be best to back him after the opening race as he kicks in from race two where he rides last-start winner Newswire Too, who has claims again despite drawing a poor alley.

He then jumps aboard Positive Vibration, who should appreciate a step up to 1,200m after a sound first-up performance behind Undoubtedly Mine down the Sha Tin straight on May 6.

His other main hopes are Elephant Magic (race six), Jolly Fine (race eight), Turf Express (race nine) and last-start winner Supreme Flight in the last event.

Expect an improved performance from the Tony Millard-trained Elephant Magic as the four-year-old caught the eye in his all-weather track trial win 12 days ago.

Marwing is in sparkling form and he looks to be the main danger with a solid book of nine rides, with seven looking good for points - Dapper Boy (race three), Super Bobo (race four), Intellectualstride (race five), Shining Treasures (race six), You Know I Win (race seven), Giggles Forever (race eight) and Chater Mikado (race nine).
