Philadelphia

This weekend sees the fifth annual Roots Picnic in their hometown, Philadelphia. This year's event includes Major Lazer, Kid Cudi, Shabazz Palaces and, obviously, The Roots (below). Fans are buzzing about seeing De La Soul backed up by The Roots and there is talk that Rakim will perform his 1987 milestone album, Paid in Full, from beginning to end.

Stockholm

The Moderna Museet is staging Yoko Ono: Moment, starting this Tuesday until September 9. The exhibition will show works from as far back as 1964 starting with the book Grapefruit (right), and will include a selection of other early pieces and experimental films exploring her changing conception of art and her reputation as one of the early pioneers of the fluxus movement.

Berlin

Until November 24, Galerie Berinson is presenting Moissej Nappelbaum (1869-1958): Portraits of Soviet Intellectual Life, featuring more than 50 rare original prints by the premier Soviet portrait photographer of her time. The portraits show the titans of the Soviet academic and intellectual world including painter-architect Vladimir Tatlin, and poet-novelist Boris Pasternak (above).

Barcelona

The San Miguel Primavera Sound Festival is taking place in Barcelona this weekend. The three-day event, which ends today, features artists across a wide range of genres from around the world. Standouts include Canadian grave-wave diva Grimes, Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Mangum, Wilco, Rufus Wainwright (above) and influential punk-metal exponents The Melvins.

Nairobi

Opening tomorrow and closing on June 24, the Alliance Francaise in the Kenyan capital will present Mogadishu Then and Now: A Pictorial Tribute to Africa's Most Wounded City. The show will feature photos of Mogadishu from a bygone era when the coastal city was a vacation destination and nightclubs outnumbered mosques. They are juxtaposed with contemporary images showing the capital in ruins.

Guangzhou

French circus duo Compagnie Morosof have brought their trademark combination of drama and acrobatics to the Guangzhou Opera House this weekend with a new show titled, Eppur Si Muove or And Yet It Turns. The show is performed on a custom-built stage that resembles a three-storey wooden box that allows the performers free rein to slip, slide and flip between the floors.
