It's hard to take seriously Kody Brown's claim that he came out about his polygamist lifestyle because he'd had enough of hiding the truth. He also claims it was to challenge the idea that all fundamentalist Mormons were members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The leader of that, Warren Jeffs, is serving a life sentence for child sexual assault. So money had nothing to do with it? Or 15 minutes of fame? Brown and his four wives, who appear on the reality show Sister Wives, reveal what makes them feel jealous, angry and neglected, and why 'plural marriage' works for them. There's no point buying the book if you want intimate details of what takes place behind closed doors. And there are few practical details about how Brown affords such a large family, although, he writes, 'Before we went public, several of them worked full-time'. Like their husband, Meri (his first wife, and the only woman legally married to him), Janelle, Christine and Robyn discuss their faith. It would have been more useful to hear from their 16 children.
