If you can group-buy a car, deals for flats surely can't be far off
Looking to buy a dinner or a spa treatment on a group-buying website? How about a car? To celebrate its first anniversary, Yahoo Deals is offering the Audi A1 - a five-door sports-back model - at the discounted price of HK$249,900, a saving of HK$66,100. A deposit of HK$11,111 is required to reserve a vehicle.
The deal went live on Friday and 20 cars were sold within 18 hours. Ten more have gone on sale.
On Thursday, Yahoo got together with Audi Hong Kong to launch the offer at the marque's Tsim Sha Tsui showroom, inviting special guests singer-songwriter Chau Pak-ho and model Jacqueline Ch'ng.
'Before, consumers were only willing to buy lower-cost products. Now, they are open to upmarket products as well,' said Mark Liu, director of e-commerce at Yahoo Hong Kong.
'This shows that the e-commerce market in Hong Kong has become quite mature.'
As the market for online group-buying increasingly heats up, it may only be a matter of time before you can buy a cut-price flat.
