Vessel gets green light

NIPPON Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line) will commission the newly-built 4,748 TEU containership NYK Altair on its Asia-Europe service this week.

NYK currently operates the service with two strings.

The direct Japan service to Europe is operated in partnership with Mitsui OSK Lines and Hapag-Lloyd.

The Asia service from Japan to Europe is operated via South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The new containership, which at 48,000 dwt is one of the largest in the world, will be assigned to the Japan service.

Both services are operated on a fixed-day weekly basis, each with nine containerships.
