Men in Black 3 (Film)
It's been 15 years since the original Men in Black sci-fi comedy, and a decade since the sequel, but Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) and Agent J (Will Smith) are still the best part of the hit franchise. That's even when you consider the addition of Josh Brolin as the younger Agent K for the third instalment.
Escaped convict Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement) travels back to 1969 to rewrite history and eliminate Agent K. So Agent J leaps back to the same year to try to save him - and also dig up some juicy info on his usually closed-off partner.
MIB3 lives up to the billing as a top comedy. Director Barry Sonnenfeld puts Smith's comic skills on full display, even showing subtlety at times. But humour is not what the film is all about. It excels on the action front, too. There are several exciting fight scenes between Boris and Agents J and K. With the help of 3-D, the aliens on display look 10 times more disgusting and fierce than those in the earlier films.
Perhaps predictably, the plot lacks originality, and doesn't introduce anything new to the overused time-travel scenarios.
That said, Griffin (Michael Stuhlbarg), an alien with the power to see the future, really shines as the new character on the block. And he's no throwaway character either. He's crucial to the future of the world, provides laughs and adds a touch of colour to the team in all-black.
