Hello Kitty adds fun to Janet's wedding

Janet Fu was in her element on her wedding day. She married the man of her dreams in the company of her favourite character, Hello Kitty.

Janet, a fashion buyer, and Tony Kwok, a government officer, got married on November 5 at the Royal Palace Chinese Restaurant in Causeway Bay. The ceremony was hosted by one of Janet's best friends, dressed in full Hello Kitty costume.

'It was a really impressive party and it was my birthday as well,' Janet said. 'Tony picked the date specially to double our happiness. I really appreciated all our friends who made it go so smoothly. There were just so many magical moments throughout the celebration.'

The couple met as first-year students at the University of Science and Technology in 1999. They became good friends and remained that way until the end of 2003.

Back then, Janet had to work in Guangzhou and only returned to Hong Kong at weekends. Tony visited her whenever he could. Even when he broke a leg, he still took the train ride to Shenzhen with Janet.

'I think it's the little things that added up and made me realise he was my Mr Right,' she said. 'He is, of course, a very romantic and humorous person. He always makes me laugh and cheers me up if I have had a long day at work.'

Tony proposed on Janet's birthday in 2010, while they were in Thailand travelling with friends.

He prepared Post-it notes with sweet messages written on them, and stuck them on the walls of their hotel suite. Then, their friends held up letters spelling out 'Marry Me' as Tony got down on one knee and asked Janet to be his wife.

'I was very moved that he went so far to propose and, of course, I said yes immediately,' she said.

Today is Tony's birthday, and Janet wants to thank him for making her dreams come true.
