Freelance rider Terry Wong Chi-wai has gone a long way to justifying the licensing committee's decision in 2011 to relicence him for the current season and stands just one win from his career century after he led all the way on Bear Elite. The Tony Millard-trained youngster had put up a much better effort when blinkers went on at his fifth start and he made the improvement necessary to graduate to a winner yesterday. With only seven wins in 2009-2010 and then just the one victory last season, Wong was asked to show cause why he should be relicensed but, against the odds, he managed to do so and has improved his performance sufficiently to land nine winners and the next one will be his hundredth success.
