Classes and counselling give students The Edge

How does The Edge Learning Centre help IB Diploma Programme (DP) students to succeed? The breadth of subjects studied for the IB DP is one of its distinguishing features. But it can be challenging for students to choose what to take and to study so many subjects at once.

The Edge offers help with both challenges by providing students with a range of classes to help them effectively tackle different subjects. It also offers students and their parents support in establishing educational goals and making programme choices.

During summer and autumn, The Edge provides pre-learning courses to teach students entering both years of the IB diploma the fundamental information required for different IB subjects and help them get a headstart in their studies.

'We spend a lot of time on theory and fundamentals,' says Duc Luu, The Edge CEO. 'We try to get students excited about the material. We want them engaged and come away ideally two to four months ahead of the class from day one.'

There are pre-learning courses for English, maths, economics, chemistry, physics and history. There is a 10-day course with two hours each day on one subject or an intensive two-day option with six hours a day focusing on two subjects, plus career counselling.

The Edge also provides test preparation classes for the IB exams. These use the centre's extensive study of past exam papers to give students specific strategies to get the best results.

Luu says both these courses are taught by highly-qualified teachers who have an intimate knowledge of the IB and keep up to date with the exams through rigorous research of past papers.

The Edge also offers Admissions Consulting, guiding students and parents on IB-related decisions, including subject and level choice, and what to do for community, action and service.
