Let Me Too a raw talent worth watching
The John Moore-trained Let Me Too made a decent impression at yesterday's Sha Tin trials, with the well-bred chestnut showing natural ability to easily win an 800m turf trial.
The two-year-old arrived in Moore's yard less than two months ago and seems forward enough to have a significant impact in an upcoming late-season griffin fixture.
The son of Stratum had already trialled in Australia, where he was purchased by George Moore Bloodstock for A$200,000 (HK$1.54 million) at the 2011 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, and it showed in his relatively polished display.
Tim Clark, who has been aboard the gelding for his last three serious gallops, was again in the saddle and worked hard at balancing the raw youngster up in the early stages. Let Me Too still showed nice gate speed to cruise beside Caspar Fownes' speedy juvenile Marco Polo (Brett Prebble).
After getting Let Me Too to gallop straight, Clark slipped him some rein and he finished off his last 400m in 22.3, beating wayward Gary Ng Tik-keung-trained three-year-old Wadapleasure (Keith Yeung Ming-lun) by 23/4 lengths.
The turf trials produced some more horses worth watching, including Be-Fabulous (Jacky Tong Chi-kit), who was off the pace on debut over 1,000m at Sha Tin just over a month ago, but finished a 1,000m heat off beautifully in fourth yesterday.
Newcomers Freak Zone and Elegant Frames also caught the eye on the grass, as did Longwah Surpeme, who will return a stronger horse after being given a let-up by Fownes.
The stand-out dirt trial of the morning was by the David Ferraris-trained Chater Mikado, who is notorious for missing the start, but after being given a rev up out of the gates, proceeded to win by a massive margin in impressive time.
Chater Mikado never leads, but showed his rivals a clean pair of heels - stringing together some stunning sectionals to unbelievably break one-minute (59.7) for the 1,050m trip on the all-weather track.
Finishing a remarkable 161/2 lengths ahead of Soldier, Chater Mikado ran home in splits of 21.7 and 21.9.
