New resort and spa adds to area's attractions

With a 25km stretch of beach, Sanya Bay is the oldest resort area in Sanya, although in recent years it has been overshadowed by new hotel developments in Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay.

Like their counterparts at Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay, hotels in Sanya Bay have also seen a decline in visitors recently and are stepping up their promotional efforts in the coming months.

According to Gilles Hervieux, general manager of Pullman Oceanview Sanya Bay Resort and Spa, demand for hotel rooms in the area was strong early this year but dipped recently. 'Hotel occupancy was good from January through April, with a successful spring festival followed by a high demand for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions,' he says.

Hervieux says the hotel is now concentrating on promoting business during the school holiday season from next month. 'Our recreation department is actively working on activities for parents and children to come and enjoy their summer holidays at our hotel,' he says.

Pullman Oceanview Sanya Bay Resort and Spa is the only five-star international hotel on Sanya Bay. It is a 10-minute drive from both the city centre and the Sanya Phoenix International Airport.

The hotel offers 469 rooms and suites and eight villas with individual swimming pools. In April, the hotel added 56 deluxe apartment suites for families and long-stay guests. The suites boast a breathtaking ocean view and offer one to three bedrooms, with a living room, full-service kitchen and laundry facilities. Larger suites include a children's bedroom.

With its 1,008-square-metre pillarless grand ballroom and eight multifunction meeting rooms, the hotel is promoting its meetings business. 'We are promoting a special meeting package with zero room rent during the summer months, and it comes with various creative team-building activity options,' Hervieux says.

Visitors who want to stay further away from Sanya's main resort areas can have another choice this summer with the opening of the Anantara Sanya Resort and Spa in August. Operated by Bangkok-based Anantara Hotels and Resorts, the hotel is situated at Xiaodonghai Beach, further south of Daidonghai Beach on the serene Luhuitou peninsula. It is near Luhuitou Golf Club, Sanya Serenity Marina and Luhuitou Park.

The hotel comprises 122 rooms, suites and villas flanked by two beaches, Xiaodonghai Bay and Luhuitou Bay, with a coastline that stretches for more than 1,000 metres.

Dining facilities include four premium restaurants and bars, including an all-day restaurant serving Oriental and Western cuisines, plus an authentic Thai cuisine restaurant.

Other facilities include meeting and banqueting rooms, a business centre, a library, a children's club and the Anantara Spa, which offers an array of spa treatments.
