Designers said farewell to insipid pastels this season when they sent out mouthwatering shades of lilac, mint, vanilla, lemon and passion fruit instead. This hot trend for the summer is made all the more appealing thanks to luxe fabrics such as silk and couture lace, with the latter dominating the runways of Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton. While the look is pretty, these cupcake-worthy shades also run the risk of becoming sickly sweet if not worn correctly. Update the look by clashing cool and warm shades - try orange and purple (as Phillip Lim does it) - or by pairing your pastel of choice with white or black. Chunky gold jewellery such as cuffs or cocktail rings add a futuristic vibe.

Choose bags that have a structured shape to avoid looking too girlie. Our top picks are the Grace Mini (HK$799, below left) by Mata Hari from I.T, and Furla's Candy Bag (HK$3,995, below right), made from plastic and snakeskin.

Pair with bold jewellery such as these hefty cocktail rings from Jan Logan's Amelie collection, which includes the Citrine and Amethyst (HK$6,850 each).

Strike a pose in Charlotte Olympia's distinctive Daryl platforms (HK$6,800 from On Pedder), which come in a range of shades.
