Toddler dies in hospital after alleged abuse
A 13-month-old girl died in Queen Elizabeth Hospital yesterday after allegedly being abused. Her 34-year-old father reported to police that he found her 'unwell' at their home at about 9pm on Saturday last week. Doctors examined the girl and found bruises on her head. No arrest has been made so far.
Motorcyclist killed in collision in Tung Chung
A 30-year-old motorcyclist died following a collision with a car on Yat Tung Street, Tung Chung, at about midnight on Friday. Meanwhile, at about 1.30am, a light-goods vehicle crashed into the back of a taxi as the vehicles were heading towards Fanling on the Fanling Highway, Sheung Shui. The 33-year-old light goods vehicle driver was arrested for alleged drink driving.
Two inmates stopped from harming themselves
Correctional services officers stopped two inmates at the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre from harming themselves. A 35-year-old man was prevented from hanging himself with his bed sheet in his cell. An 80-year-old man was found with self-inflicted scratch marks. Both men were sent to hospital.
HKIEd ready to become university, president says
The departing president of the Hong Kong Institute of Education, Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, said the institute was ready to become a university. Cheung said the institution shared 'all the qualities' of a university and expected official procedures to be completed soon.
