A bad week for ...

Lily Chiang Lai-lei

The former chairwoman of the General Chamber of Commerce lost her application for bail pending an appeal against her conviction for a HK$3 million share-option scam. The setback came on her son's birthday. Chiang, 51, will have served two-thirds of her 3?year jail sentence by March next year, when her appeal against her conviction for fraud and other charges will be heard.

Jessica Lo Hiu-tung

The 19-year-old student posted an apology on her Facebook page after she failed to board a US flight back home to Hong Kong, triggering a huge police hunt in California. Her parents flew to the States and made tearful appeals for help to find her. Lo said she owed a lot of people an explanation but did not want to talk to anyone right now. 'This is all my fault,' she said.

Ai Weiwei

The dissident artist said he had been told by police in Beijing that he cannot leave the country despite receiving an official order announcing the expiry of a one-year bail condition imposed after his release from detention last June. He told reporters he was still barred from going abroad because he was under investigation for alleged crimes, including putting pornography on the internet.
