Hong Kong writer and entrepreneur Anita Leung Fung-yee, the chief executive of Qin Jia Yuan Media Services, plans to mark the 20th anniversary of the handover in 2017 by adapting what will be her final novel, Our Stories, into a movie and television drama series.
The historical novel will be composed of various stories about the city and its people between 2015 and 1949, the year Leung was born and the People's Republic of China was founded.
That undertaking led Leung, 63, to announce on Tuesday that she would step down as chief executive of the company that she co-founded in 1995 with her husband, legislator Philip Wong Yu-hong.
In a filing with the Hong Kong stock exchange, Leung said she 'has decided to devote more time and effort to write her last novel, Our Stories'.
Leung, who has written more than 100 novels and essays since 1989, said her resignation would be effective from July 9, but she would stay on as chairwoman.
Her designation would be changed to non-executive director on the same day.
