A daub of the summer's aroma

Joyee Chan

Think of a summer bouquet bursting with juicy fruits and flowers ... Then imagine it all crushed up into a portable potion.

Such are the sensual solid fragrances created from pure and natural ingredients by skincare expert Sabrina Lo Ming-yan from Sabrina's Secrets.

Just rubbing a little onto your pulse points will keep you smelling good all day.

Here Lo explains how to design a rose- and sweet-orange-scented balm.

What you'll need (Makes 4)

10g shea butter

5g beeswax

5g olive wax

10g jojoba oil

3g aloe vera oil

1g liquid vitamin E

8 drops of rose essential oil

2 drops of sweet orange essential oil

Pink mica (pearly powder)

Non-metal, heat-safe bowl

Small containers

Weights

Steps

1 Place the shea butter, honey wax and olive wax into a glass bowl over simmering water and allow the white solids to melt, stirring occasionally until they turn into a milky liquid.

2 Add the jojoba oil and aloe vera oil to the mixture. Mix well before you remove the bowl from heat.

3 Add the liquid vitamin E, rose essential oil and sweet orange essential oil. Mix well.

4 Blend in the pink pearl powder.

5 Immediately pour the pink perfume blend into containers. And allow to cool for 10 minutes at room temperature.

Tips:

1 Shea butter and olive wax moisturises and softens the skin. Aloe soothes irritations. Rose essential oils relieve anxiety and invoke positive moods. Sweet orange extracts help fight insomnia, or lack of sleep.

2 Feel free to switch to other essential oils if you prefer spicy or wood scents.

3 The shelf life of your fragrance will be about a year.
