An exercise in aesthetics

Home exercise equipment has always looked out of place in the home with visual aesthetics coming second behind the durability needed for professional fitness centres. However, the designers at LUNAR are changing that idea. The seemingly contrasting themes of fitness and stylish living come together through its Nova climbing wall (inset) and Vela exercise bike (above), both seamlessly blending into the modern living environment allowing home fitness equipment to migrate out of the spare room. The Nova climbing wall's functionality is enhanced by a smartphone application allowing the user to track their progress. At first glance it's difficult to recognise the Vela exercise bike for what it is. Matthis Hamann, managing partner for LUNAR in Europe, describes the bike as 'high functional fitness equipment that, besides its sporting uses, will adorn any living room in the same way as an aesthetic sculpture, thus combining 'life' and 'style' in the best way.' The bike sits on a light panel that is colour coded to indicate the variety and intensity of the user's exercise to create a sense of immersion in the workout.
