Comfort meets travel chic in Escada's newpre-autumn collection

Daniel Wingate, design director of German fashion house Escada, was supposed to present the brand's pre-autumn 2012 press preview on Wednesday. But, an emergency forced the American designer to leave Hong Kong prior to the event, leaving the job in the capable and creative hands of senior designer Alexandra Biron von Curland.

Escada takes travel as its theme for the collection. 'We've tried to keep in mind people travelling to all continents,' Biron von Curland said. Lavish coats with fur and fringes, made from a fabric specifically designed for Escada, were much to the fore on the runway.

'The coat with the fringes came out of the blanket idea because what you would do is to wrap yourself in a blanket to feel homey. So we used it in our collection.'

Animal prints such as water- snake skin trimmings, geometric patterns, and magnified glen check are used to accentuate different pieces, although Biron von Curland said the key colours were black and white because 'with travelling an easy combination is good'.

Models including Carrie Lam showed the key looks, which included a long red dress with elegant draping on the back and a chic white shirt paired with a black pencil skirt.
