Top-scoring mainlanders secure 360 HKU places

The University of Hong Kong admitted more than 360 mainlanders into its undergraduate programme, starting in September, out of its biggest-ever pool of 12,438 applicants. Among the successful applicants were 10 top provincial scorers, and 11 top city scorers.

Electronic-goods smugglers evade arrest

Marine police failed to arrest five men caught smuggling electronic goods in Sai Kung. As police approached the waterfront where the smugglers were loading boxes from a car into a speedboat, the men jumped onto the boat and fled. Officers confiscated the car and 26 boxes of tablet computers, mobile phones, digital cameras and hard disks worth HK$4.8 million.
