Surfing dogs battle to rule the waves

Well, I'll be doggone ... this year's hot summer did not deter surfers and their dogs in America from taking to the waves to see who could be top dog. The seventh annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition was held on Imperial Beach, in San Diego, California, last month.

Up to 50 dogs took to the waters in 10-minute heats, with scores given for their longest ride and style - including wearing sunglasses - while riding two waves. The efforts included setting three Guinness World Records, including one for the most dogs - 17 - riding on a single surfboard. Each year, the event raises funds for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Let's check out some of the surfing dogs, and their efforts ...
