Trainer Michael Chang Chun-wai has nice private purchases in his yard and Superninsky is no different, with the four-year-old showing a nice set of gears in the Class Three Cox's Handicap over (1,400m) at Sha Tin.

Superninsky impressed in his trackwork and trials and was in the market early on at $78 before drifting out to $110 under Olivier Doleuze.

The gelding was snagged back to last from gate 11, had to switch off the heels of Gene Power and then Green Zone to get widest out at the 400m before hitting the line with plenty of purpose to run down Double Dragon in the final few metres for fourth - 33/4 lengths off handy winner Deep Thinker.

He arrived with a good deal of experience in New Zealand for trainers Graeme and Mark Sanders for two wins (1,400m and 1,580m) and a placing from nine starts.

Superninsky is a son of four-crop Stravinsky stallion Keeninsky, who was a smart performer in New Zealand with seven wins from 1,200m to 1,400m.

His sire's only other local representative has been straight-course specialist Lifeline Elite.

His dam, Kadesa, hails from the stamina influential line of Zabeel and was a double winner at 1,400m in Australia from her nine-start career. Kadesa is a full sister to Zingo, a Listed winner of five races from 1,400m to 2,600m, and One Eye Jack, a triple winner from 1,800m to 2,200m in Hong Kong, and eight other winners. Digging deeper into his pedigree, his third dam, Noble Mark, was a multiple Group winning sprinter in Europe.

Kadesa has also produced Scapolo (by Batchelor Duke), who has placed three times from as many starts as a two-year-old at Riccarton in New Zealand this season.

Superninsky comes from a family that knows how to win races and this one should be followed at a mile or under next season.
