Honesty is the best policy, goes the old saying. And as Judy Yu Chu-dic celebrated the 30th anniversary of her company, Carsac, with friends and business partners, no concept has been more important and influential in her success.

'The lesson I learned was to do business with kindness and be truthful. Also never give up so easily,' said Yu, whose company evolved from Lanvin Hong Kong in 1982 and has since brought in lifestyle brands such as LeSportsac, Pylones and Perigot.

The cocktail event, followed by a dinner party at Wan Chai's Grand Hyatt hotel, was attended by celebrity guests including models Qiqi Yam and Janet Ma Sze-wai, fashion designer Barney Cheng and Alessandra Schiavo, Italian consul-general for Hong Kong and Macau.

Asked what has motivated her for three decades, Yu shrugged with a smile and said: 'I really don't know. All I did was keep bringing lesser-known brands to Hong Kong and built them up.

'It's hard for us to compete with big corporations, but we really work from our heart.'

Having distributed accessories brand LeSportsac for 18 years in Hong Kong, Carsac is now developing a Hong Kong-exclusive print titled 'We love Hong Kong', which will be available from the store in October.
