HTC One X

Overshadowed by Samsung's Galaxy droids last year, HTC has finally come up with something with the specs and design to match them. The HTC One X (HK$5,198) has a 4.7-inch HD screen, powered by a quad-core processor. It is wrapped in a unibody polycarbonate construction that's glossy at the sides and matte on the back. But unlike the Galaxy, it has no SD card slot, so you are stuck with the 32GB internal storage. Alternatively, you may resort to cloud services to store your archive of vintage photos and 1080p video footage. Beats Audio is another feature, designed to enhance the sound from your earphones and bluetooth headphones.

Samsung Galaxy SIII

One of the strongest challengers to Apple's iPhone, Samsung's new Galaxy SIII (HK$5,598) packs a snappy quad-core processor in its glossy polycarbonate shell. A mere 17 grams heavier than its predecessor, the SIII is 8.6mm thick despite its generous 4.8-inch HD screen, interchangeable battery and a microSD slot. The SIII has a handful of Samsung-only features such as Smart Stay, a screen that refuses to time out when the user is looking at it (made possible by face recognition). It also has S Voice, a Siri-like voice assistant unique among Android devices that helps you time your spaghetti or set the alarm. It won't amuse you with jokes quite like Apple's Siri, though.
