Cutest collection of cuddly cartoon characters bring shopping malls' summer campaigns to life
You've got to hand it to cuteness: it does sell. A string of shopping malls across the city have adopted cute cartoon characters for their summer campaigns, which feature shopping privileges, novelty souvenirs and in-store decorations.
Rilakkuma, a popular Japanese teddy bear of which Canto-pop star Miriam Yeung Chin-wah is a fan, will take centre stage in Tsim Sha Tsui's The One mall from today.
The atrium of the shopping mall will be transformed into a Rilakkuma-themed cafe for shoppers to take photos or interact with the large-scale figurines and - oh, by the way - stop at the souvenir shop offering goodies; anything from smartphone cases to stickers and shopping bags.
While the Rilakkuma promotion ends on August 23, Sanrio's timeless hit, mouthless-feline character Hello Kitty, is back this summer for a fantasy-themed carnival at Kowloon Bay's KITEC venue, starting on Thursday.
The event, entitled Hello Kitty in Oz - The Lost Chapter, invites fans to participate in a series of arcade games to 'save' Kitty from the evil. Tickets cost from HK$95 for entry to HK$335 for express entry and access to the arcade games, and are now available at Cityline.com.
If your tastes are less mainstream, the Mikiki mall in San Po Kong is collaborating with the British-based masterminds behind Mr Bean's animation for an Olympic-themed exhibition opening on Sunday.
