Peter Ho Leung reckons Peri Peri Saffron is so relaxed 'a grandma could ride him', but the breakthrough winner might need some remedial barrier work after a worrying trend of missing the start continued. 'We'll try and teach him and run him through the stalls a few times before the season starts,' Ho added. The step up to 1,400m was perfect for Peri Peri Saffron, whose trainer anticipated a future over the mile. Jockey Derek Leung Ka-chun recovered well to have the four-year-old midfield after the tardy start, but took evasive action to get clear rounding the home turn and copped a two-day and HK$60,000 careless-riding penalty. Leung will miss the first two meetings of the 2012-13 season.
