Time and money the watchwords as stars help Hublot celebrate opening of Central boutique
When you have as much star power as Donnie Yen Ji-dan, time is not always money. The martial arts actor, star of Ip Man, said the most expensive watch he had ever bought was for his wife. He didn't buy them for himself because he regularly received gifts from sponsors.
Yen was officiating at the opening of Swiss luxury watch-maker Hublot's boutique in Central on Friday.
At the cocktail event, Yen chatted enthusiastically about watches with other VIP aficionados, including actor Kam Kwok-leung, barrister Brandon Chau Kwok-fung and businessman Howard Chao. The crowd got the chance to preview the brand's latest collection. The design of the store, conceived by New York-based celebrity architect Peter Marino, is aimed at creating a peaceful yet warm atmosphere.
Yen, who was in the Big Apple earlier this month for the New York Asian Film Festival, said he was well received by his fans in America.
'I was very touched when a 90-year-old lady turned up at the event to support me and wanted my autograph. Even when I went shopping with my wife in New York, I was recognised by the locals. It's such an honour and encouragement for me.'
