Job fair for HKDSE graduates

More than 70,000 Form Six students will be getting their results for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination tomorrow. But only 15,000 of them will get a place at government-funded universities.

For many of the rest, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong held the Youth Employment and Training Expo in Tseung Kwan O on Tuesday.

Representatives from local tertiary institutions were invited to offer an introduction on their joint-courses and bridging programmes.

Tik Chi-yuen, deputy chief executive of the church, reminded students: 'Going to university is not the only option. Students should explore and develop their strengths which can prepare them for a future career.'

More than 2,000 vacancies in various industries, such as retail and tourism, were on show for students.

Most of the openings were from the catering and retail sectors.

Average monthly salaries on offer were around HK$8,000.
