Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse
An alternate timeline, invading alien hordes, and cool mechs are the main ingredients in the latest sci-fi anime from Japan called Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse. The show is based on a 2003 Japanese video game series that has since evolved into a multi-title manga and now a 12-episode action sci-fi series.
In 1973, Earth is invaded by aliens called BETAs (Beings of Extra Terrestrial origin, who are adversaries of the human race), and all over the world countries are fighting them off with large humanoid mechs called Tactical Surface Fighters.
Unfortunately the TSFs are only able to slow the BETAs down, and after 30 years of defending the line a number of countries have fallen and been taken over.
In 2001, the United Nations launches a programme to bring all the countries developing TSFs together in Alaska, in the hopes that a shared development project will lead to greater advances in TSF technology.
The show follows protagonists Yui Takamura, a TSF pilot of the Imperial Royal Guards of Japan, and only survivor of her TSF squadron at the fall of Kyoto; and Yuya Bridges, a TSF pilot with the US army. The fate of the world is in the hands of these two pilots who don't see eye to eye.
The show is best described as Starship Troopers meets Gundam, and the first episode will having you sitting on the edge of your seat. Going by the first episode this is a must-watch show!
