In today's luxury goods market, craftsmanship sells. Italian fashion brand Gucci hosted a two-day exhibition last week to showcase the artisans behind its iconic leather bags and shoes.

Some of them were flown in from Gucci's leather atelier in Florence to Hong Kong to demonstrate the making of bags and shoes in Harbour City mall in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The opening cocktail party last Wednesday attracted socialites and celebrities including actress Carina Lau Kar-ling, singer-actor Aaron Kwok Fu-shing, and models Mikki Yao and Janet Ma.

The VIPs sipped champagne while checking out artisans polishing leathers to create Gucci's signature bamboo and Jackie bags, as well as craftsmen working on men's shoes.

The artisan demonstration ended on Friday but Gucci has also staged an exhibition showcasing items selected from its design archive in Italy. It ends tomorrow.
