Candy Bar sunglasses provide various shades of cool for the city's glitterati
Fashion lovers and sun haters both have reason to celebrate now Karen Walker's Candy Bar sunglasses line has landed at Hong Kong's popular independent design boutique, Liger. On Friday evening the cream of the fashion scene gathered at the Causeway Bay branch of Liger to sample the new wares. The city's glitterati posed in technicolour sunglasses, while stylish hangers-on sipped sake from glass hip flasks and snacked on hotdogs provided by yakitori hotspot, Yardbird.
Liger founders Dorothy Hui and Hilary Tsui Ho-ying were on hand looking lovely in Candy Bar's newest frames and kidding around with designer Johanna Ho, who stunned in a vintage Marc Jacobs lace top complemented with her own ruffle belt and jersey skirt.
Tsui previously said she was happy with her three stores and was resisting pressure to expand to the lucrative mainland and Taiwan markets. But, although she says taking care of her daughter is her full-time job, it is clear she was in her element and it will be interesting to see how long she can resist the urge to expand.
For any doubters, the talent at the launch party showed that the city's home-grown fashion world is alive and well. From the eager faces and palpable energy, it is clear that the young talents defining the Hong Kong look are just getting started.
