Hins Cheung ready to tread the boards
It's been a few busy weeks for Canto-pop star Hins Cheung King-hin. The singer-songwriter has been preparing to open his own studio, rehearsing for a concert tour and also for a theatre show called I Have a Date with Autumn. Tomorrow he is releasing his new album, titled Why Not, featuring songs he wrote for the stage drama.
'It has been like training for a triathlon for me over the past two months,' Cheung said. 'I've followed a daily routine for rehearsals and working out at the gym. I've been really healthy and productive. Rehearsing takes a lot of energy so a routine is essential.'
Cheung said one day he cried five times as he was rehearsing a scene for the play.
'I totally collapsed when I got home that night. I felt like I hadn't slept for 10 days.'
Cheung has been working with a string of industry veterans both on the album and the show. He performed with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra for the song Stop the Time. He will co-star with award-winning actresses Louisa So Yuk-wah and Alice Lau Ngar-lai in I Have a Date with Autumn.
The show opens on Sunday at the Academy for Performing Arts. For tickets, visit hkticketing.com
