Sculpture exhibition inspired by 'energy of Hong Kong' whips up a storm of interest
According to Richard Zawitz, the atrium of Central's IFC mall is a magical place that inspires creativity. Even more so now that an exhibition of his sculptures, called 'Infinity and Tao', is on show there.
'I dedicated this show to the power and energy of Hong Kong, but I didn't wish for a typhoon 10 [signal],' he joked. 'I only wanted a No 3 - that was the maximum.'
The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-born sculptor took inspiration for his latest work from Taoism. His tangled sculptures are created using a variety of materials, including stainless steel, plastic, wood and stone. There are also a few works featuring Swarovski crystals.
The artist, who came to Hong Kong 40 years ago when he was still a student, said he fell in love with the city at first sight.
'From my first step in Hong Kong, I felt the energy and power, and it has inspired me for many years,' he said. 'It's a magical and very special place with exceptional energy.'
Plenty of guests turned up to the exhibition opening on Wednesday to feel the 'energy', including former actress Lynn Hsieh. The exhibition runs until Sunday.
